Chris was one of the founding Directors of ITS in 1991, becoming Managing Director in 1997.

He is a well known industry figure who has led our work in a number of high profile schemes, some of which have involved periods of particular challenge to the trustees. Chris has also acted an as expert witness in court.

Chris has received a number of personal accolades including “Independent Trustee of the Year” awards and being named in the Most Influential People in Pensions lists on multiple occasions.

  • An Essex man he once worked on Romford market
  • He is an enthusiastic, but very uncoordinated, runner
  • He likes to spend his summer weekends in muddy fields listening to slightly obscure music

Hetal Kotecha Director

Hetal joined ITS from university in 1999, becoming a Director in 2005.

He runs a portfolio of ongoing clients as well as having overall responsibility for our PPF teams. Hetal has also led a number of special projects, including the tracing and recovery of misappropriated assets.

Hetal is an Associate of the Pensions Management Institute.

  • He has 3 young children to keep him busy
  • As a resident of Twickenham, just don’t mention the Army v Navy match to him
  • Always commercial, he sold his old kitchen on ebay

Peter Askins Director

Peter joined ITS in 2008 following a long career at the DWP which culminated in being Head of Defined Benefit Pension Policy.

At ITS, he has taken a particular interest in the small schemes sector, having considerable empathy with the strain that funding these schemes can have on small employers. Many of these are run on a sole trustee basis including a centralised scheme for small non-associated employers.

Peter is much in demand as an industry commentator. Anyone who has seen him in action will know that he enjoys a good debate on topical pensions issues.

  • He was a football referee for 20 years.
  • He is Helmsman on a replica of a Battle of Trafalgar Top Sail Schooner.
  • Plays golf enthusiastically but, with a handicap of 23, has considerable scope to improve.

Janine Wood Director

Janine is a Fellow of the Institute of Actuaries who joined ITS in September 2015.

Prior to joining us Janine, who is based in Manchester, spent 20 years with Mercer predominantly acting as Scheme Actuary and corporate adviser. She has also served as scheme secretary to a number of pension schemes, so brings a truly rounded perspective to the trustee role.

Janine has advised on a variety of pensions issues including liability management, asset de-risking, scheme mergers and corporate transactions. Her wide experience across both DB and DC schemes extends to winding up both kinds of arrangement.

  • She hates peas.
  • As a child she was once mortified when her Dad walked over to a holidaying Margaret Thatcher to enquire after her broken finger.
  • Whilst she was at school Daniel Craig was at the equivalent boys school. Luckily for her husband they never met.

Dinesh Visavadia Director

Dinesh, who joined ITS in October 2016 has a background in managing domestic and international pension arrangements with some of the UK's most prominent employers. Most recently he was the Head of Pensions and Benefits at Britvic Soft Drinks prior to which he was Head of Pensions at the John Lewis Partnership.

Dinesh has wide experience as a Trustee and Chair of trustees, not just of pension schemes, but also of charities.

  • Dinesh is passionate about the charities he works with and considers himself fortunate to have been able to support disadvantaged communities.
  • Dinesh is an enthusiastic sailor who had a memorable voyage with his group from Brittany to St Petersburg. He has also sailed around the Isle of Wight with Sir Ben “They’ve made me angry and you don’t want to make me angry” Ainslie.
  • Dinesh is a keen swimmer, having reached Olympic standard.

Rachel joined ITS in January 2017, from Mercer where she was UK Governance Leader for the Retirement Business.

She has advised both trustee boards and sponsoring employers, many of which are household names. She also acted as Trustee Chief Operating Officer of a multi-billion pound scheme for a number of years.

Rachel is a Fellow of the Pensions Management Institute and a qualified solicitor.

  • She loves being in the outdoors, accompanied by family, friends and her dog.
  • She describes herself as “returning to running”
  • She is learning to play the ukulele. We hope one with strings as she has previous as a competitive air guitarist!

Helen Frisby Director

Helen has been at ITS since 2007, becoming a Director in 2018, and currently has day-to-day responsibility for ITS’s Trustee Support Team.

She has significant experience of providing trusteeship services to a variety of schemes, with specific skills for schemes that are in the process of securing benefits with an insurer, are going through a restructuring exercise or that have entered a Pension Protection Fund (PPF) assessment period.

Helen holds the PMI Award in Pension Trusteeship and is a Fellow of the Pensions Management Institute (FPMI). She likes to keep active and is a keen cyclist.

  • Travelled across Russia on the Trans Siberian.
  • Cycled from Land’s End to John O’Groats.
  • There are rumours she likes relaxing at Spas but we don’t believe her.

Mark has an advisory background and joined ITS in 2018. His growing portfolio of schemes includes both DB and DC and includes sole trusteeships. These have a variety of challenges and sizes.

Mark’s extensive experience working with trustee boards and sponsors makes him a particularly effective communicator and negotiator. His special interests include strategy development and de-risking.

  • His idea of relaxation is heading to the Alps to cycle the equivalent of Mount Everest
  • He (really) hates heights though and once got stuck up a lighthouse
  • Mark has had tea at Lord Voldemort’s house”

Dianne Day Client Director

Dianne joined ITS in February 2015. She has been a Pension Trustee since 2007 and has experience on both DB and DC schemes, as well as Independent Governance Committees. Dianne leads our work in the DC arena.

Dianne has a wealth of experience in investment, governance and trusteeship in Australia and the UK. She has investment credentials both as a Chief Investment Officer with direct Board accountability, as well as a Trustee serving arrangements with assets over £500m. She is particularly interested in effective member communications and engagement strategies.

Dianne holds the Diploma of Applied Finance & Investment as well as an MBA. She is also a Fellow of the Financial Services Institute of Australasia.

  • Modestly claims to make the best banana cake in Yorkshire
  • Met Bill Clinton on 9/11
  • Having lived in Australia, New Zealand and the UK she is very flexible in always backing the winning cricket or rugby team

Andrew joined ITS in May 2016, having previously been Head of Pensions at Walker Morris, a Leeds firm of solicitors.

In addition to his advisory work, Andrew has acted as an independent trustee for many years, including chairing trustee boards and leading sole trustee appointments. His breadth of experience extends across both ongoing schemes and discontinuance cases.

  • Ed Sheeran has partied at Andrew’s house albeit that Ed was 4 years old at the time and in Andrew’s daughter’s year at primary school
  • He has a personal fitness trainer once a week who is 70 years old and a former World Body Building Champion
  • Andrew was the fourth generation to qualify as a solicitor and join the family firm in Leeds established by his great grandfather in the late 1800s

Andy joined ITS in 2017. He combines trusteeship with being the CEO of the Invensys Pension Scheme which is a £5bn, predominantly DB, hybrid scheme.

Andy has a financial background, originally from the insurance sector. He was previously the CFO at Rothesay Life and at Paternoster, two bulk annuity specialists. Prior to that he worked for the Prudential in a number of finance roles, ultimately moving into marketing where he was responsible for the profitability of the Prudential’s pension business.

  • Hasn’t gone far in life, still living in the village where he was born.
  • Rowed the Thames as part of Three Men in a Boat with his brother and son.
  • Enjoys cycling, but having cycled to Germany in his younger days he is now more likely to be seen about town on his Brompton.

Graham Bryant joined ITS in January 2018 after a long career with Shell, the last 13 years as a manager in Group Pensions.

He has a varied business finance background and experience in a wide range of pension schemes, working with both sponsor and trustee boards across all aspects from benefit reviews, valuations and chairing an investment committee. He has led project teams carrying out scheme wind-ups and buy-outs including innovative insurance transactions. He is also a Trustee Director of the Shell Contributory Pension Fund.

Graham is a qualified chartered accountant with a Masters in accounting and finance and has the Award in Pension Trusteeship.

  • Is a keen team sportsman but rumoured to be learning to play golf
  • Lived in Bulgaria for four years and speaks the language
  • Is a keen Evertonian who as a boy lived next door to the captain

Frank joined ITS in May 2018 having held several senior leadership positions as a Senior Partner at Mercer.

He brings deep experience in managing DB risk, having worked with clients on numerous transactions and successfully lead Mercer’s Global proposition and growth in that space until his retirement from the firm in 2017.

Frank is a Fellow of the Institute of Actuaries and previously held the position of Chair of Staple Inn Actuarial Society.

  • Was a black belt at judo at the age of 16.
  • Loves the outdoors, be it cycling, skiing or walking his dogs
  • Once abseiled down Table Mountain (but unlikely to repeat the experience!)

Nita Tinn Client Director

Nita, who has a legal and company secretarial background, joined ITS in 2010.

She represents ITS on a variety of schemes, both DB and DC, with asset sizes from circa £20m to over £1bn including a number of sole trusteeships the largest of which has assets of circa £200m.

In addition to being a qualified solicitor, Nita is an accredited mediator and sits on the council of the Association of Professional Pension Trustees.
