Our Approach

Trusteeship of a pension scheme is like running a business. Each of our appointments is led by one of our directors, who brings commercial and technical expertise to the Scheme. We do not use "Director" as a courtesy title, but in its true sense as an officer of the Trustee Board or company, with the resulting responsibilities and full accountability. We demand that our directors apply the same rigours to our appointments as to running our own business.

To complement the director leading an appointment, a shadow director regularly peer reviews their work. As well as providing quality assurance, this practice also ensures continuity in the event of the lead director's absence. The peer review culture is just one of several quality controls firmly embedded at all levels of the company.

Since our birth in 1992, we have continually evolved, and will continue to do so. We have a dedicated Operations Director to ensure that our practices remain robust, relevant and innovative. Our commitment to continuing excellence has been recognised by our industry peers.

Our People

Any business is only as good as the people representing it. Our directors are experienced professionals recruited from a range of complementary disciplines. They are also permanent employees of the company as our view of professional Trusteeship is that of a demanding career that requires ongoing commitment as well as ability and experience.

The directors are backed up by a team of experienced support staff to ensure that work is carried out at an appropriate level in the most cost effective way for the scheme. We are committed to the personal and professional development of all our staff.

Big Company Disciplines, Independent Thinking

We are owned by Jardine Lloyd Thompson (JLT), which is a leading global insurance and reinsurance broker and Employee Benefits provider, and we benefit from the audit and control structures you would expect from an FSA-regulated organisation.

Nonetheless, the "Independent" in our name is something we guard jealously. Operationally we have no relationship with JLT, we are managed independently, and are not subject to their "house views". JLT do not influence our thinking or our management of Trustee appointments. As befits pension Trustees, we are very conscious of perceived conflicts of interest, so do not allow ourselves to be considered for an appointment if JLT is already involved as an adviser or administrator to a pension scheme.
